How to Fix Egypt 2023 DST Issue

How does NTP handle the daylight savings time switchovers?
Because NTP is based on UTC which does not have a daylight savings time period, a switchover is not necessary inside the NTP system.
The operating systems of servers and clients are solely responsible for switching from/to DST.

Starting in 2023, Egypt will reinstate Daylight Savings. The new DST period will start on the last Friday of April and continue until the end of the last Thursday of October. During this period, the clocks in Egypt will be set forward by one hour on April 28, 2023, at 12:00 AM and set back by one hour on October 27, 2023, at 12:00 AM.

The April 2023 Monthly quality update for Windows includes the following time zone update for Egypt.

Here are the KB article numbers that contain the Egypt DST fix for different versions of Windows:

**The proper action to fix DST issue is to install Microsoft update for All Domain Controllers, member servers and workstations.**

Workaround to fix DST issue.
This solution is a temporary until update all machines.

Step-1:

Install the update on your PDC Emulator domain controller.

This will ensure that all machines on your network receive the update when they next check for time update.

Step-2:

Create GPO with registry values responsible for fixing the DST issue as follow:

In the new GPO, navigate to Preferences, click on Registry, and then click New, Registry Wizard. This will open a window where you can select the registry file you want to import.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Time Zones\Egypt Standard Time

 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Time Zones\Egypt Standard Time\Dynamic DST.

Once you've opened the registry, select all the values in this registry to be included in the group policy for modification.

Step-3:

Apply the Group Policy to Your Machines.

Step-4:

Restart Machines to force GPO update.

For workgroup computers you can run the following registry file with administrator privilege and restart the computer.

How to Configure Static Devices
There are few static devices (like few SAN, NAS devices) which do not support NTP server configuration over Group Policy or DHCP. For such devices, you need to configure the time sources statically, from the device console.
The downside is, if NTP server name would be changed, you have to change these settings manually.

Examples:

DVR
IP-PBX
NAS
